Sketches of alleged killers of seven cops released
 

Karachi: The Sindh Police Department on Thursday released sketches of six terrorists who killed seven policemen during an anti-polio campaign in Karachi earlier this month, and an**unced a reward of Rs5 million for sharing information about the group or the terrorists.

The suspects had shot dead the seven police officials in two attacks in the Pakistan Bazaar area of Orangi Town on April 20 when they were guarding polio vaccinators. An FIR was lodged by the Counter Terrorism Department Police Station in Garden.

High-powered investigation teams looked into statements of witnesses and managed to develop the sketches of the fleeing terrorists. Releasing the sketches, the Sindh Police Department said: “If anybody provides information in respect of the assassins involved in the above case, he will be rewarded by Rs5 million. The name of the informer will be kept secret.”

A senior official on condition of a**nymity said that while going through the records, statements and footage, the investigators suspected that men belonging to the banned Lashker-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were involved in the attacks on the policemen.

He added that due to the polio campaign, law enforcers were deployed in different parts of the West Range, including in Central and West districts. The cops had successfully completed the polio drive till after**on on April 20. Three of them were sitting in a mobile while a fourth policeman was standing next to the mobile in Bangla Bazaar of the Pakistan Bazaar area when the terrorists riding on motorcycles shot them and fled. A few hundred yards away in Manzoor Nagar, the attackers shot and wounded three more cops when the law enforcers confronted them. All the seven cops were pro**unced dead at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The slain officials were identified as police constables Rustam, Ismail, Wazir Ahmed, Ghulam Rasool, Daimuddin, Ghazi Khan and Yaseen. The senior officials said that they developed some CCTV footage of the incident and that confirmed that the terrorists were six who had come on three motorcycles and four of them opened fire.

It transpired through the footage that the terrorists had also conducted rekey of the policemen before the attacks. The official said that in the attacks, two old and two new ******* were used, and their forensic examination confirmed that the old ******* had been used in 17 earlier attacks in Orangi Town and **rth Karachi.

A similar attack was witnessed on Rangers officials in Baldia Town on **vember 20, 2015, when four Rangers troops were killed and all the victims had been hit in the head. In a similar attack by a banned outfit, two Military Police personnel were killed on M A Jinnah Road.
