Taking a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft is a nearly all-risk endeavor. Quarterbacks taken first overall rarely pan out to be Peyton Manning. Too often, they turn out to be expensive, franchise-dampening headaches of JaMarcus Russell-sized proportions.

Yet a scarcity of riches defines the quarterback position in the NFL. Teams are more than willing to toe-tip a high ledge in hopes of nabbing someone who will eventually work for them. It’s a cruel game, really — but it makes one name stand above the rest before Friday's NFL Draft.
