Derek the wombat is the most adorable running partner you'll ever meet, but he wouldn't be here if it weren't for the efforts of one woman in Australia.

This little wombat attracted global attention due to a video of him waddling down a secluded beach on the Tasmanian island. It was shot and uploaded by Sean Scott Photography to Facebook last Tuesday.*

Kate Mooney, who is affectionately k**wn as the "Wombat Lady of Flinders Island," rescued Derek from the side of the road after his mum died.*Mooney has lived on Flinders Island near Tasmania for about 35 years and currently looks after 15 other wombats, which she feeds in a shed at her property.*Three, including Derek, she found herself — while the other wombats were brought to her.
