Tensions between Apple and the FBI flared up Thursday after the U.S. Department of Justice filed its response in the San Bernardi** iPhone case.

Apple has consistently said that the request — **t just by a U.S. court, but by the government in any country — is unprecedented. Apple has said as much in interviews with the press and before Congress.

In its most recent filing, the government calls those statements into question, writing that "Apple appears to have made special accommodations in China as well: for example, moving Chinese user data to Chinese government servers, and installing a different Wi-Fi protocol for Chinese iPhones."
