Tandem Diabetes Care won FDA approval to introduce its t:slim G4 insulin pump, a device that is a hybrid of the popular*t:slim insulin pump and Dexcom G4 PLATINUM continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The touchscreen display is able to overlay the chart of the latest glucose levels on top of*how much insulin has been delivered over the same time period. This lets diabetic patients keep a close eye on how their blood glucose levels respond to insulin injections, in turn making it easier to achieve optimal insulin dosage from day to day.

The designers aimed for ease of use and the system is intended for use by diabetics on insulin who are as young as twelve years old. The pump can also be used alone without a*paired up CGM, simply losing those features but continuing to do its core task.

Like other Tandem pumps, the t:slim G4 features Micro-Delivery tech**logy capable of providing basal injection*every 5 minutes in increments down to*0.001 unit, while holding a reserve of*up to 300 units of insulin.
