Iraqi Offensive Seeks to Recapture Ramadi From ISIS

The offensive employs a wide variety of forces, including Iraqi soldiers, Shiite militiamen and Sunni tribal fighters. The Islamic State captured the city of Ramadi earlier in the month, following a year of violence in the city. The Iraqi military came under criticism for the cities capture, with US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter indicating that Iraqi forces had lost the will to fight against the jihadists. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi responded to such concerns in a BBC interview on Sunday, stating that Ramadi can be recaptured from ISIS "in a matter of days".
