Boston Sci Releases World’s Longest Lasting Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators
http://www.medgadget.com/wp-content/.../02/EL-ICD.pngBoston Scientific is pushing the life expectancy limits of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) by releasing its*Extended Longevity (EL) line of such devices. The DYNAGEN EL and I**GEN EL ICDs are expected to last for about 12 years, potentially double the lifetime of similar competing devices. The implants feature EnduraLife tech**logy that uses **vel chemical techniques to manufacture batteries that last longer.

Boston Sci also touts the devices’ smaller and thinner shape that should help to make*implantation a tad easier and promote long term patient comfort.

The first implantation of an EL ICD has already been successfully performed at*The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
