The relief operation by Iraqi Kurds to help their Syrian brethren has finally got under way after Ankara last week gave permission to allow Kurdistan?s President Masoud Barzani to send reinforcements and supplies across Turkish territory. ?This is a nice gesture,? said a Turkish Kurd. ?**body has done what President Barzani has done. He has extended his hand for our brothers who are trapped in Kobani.? Dozens of Iraq?s Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are also following by air to Turkey and from there they?ll cross into Syria to Kobani to take on the ISIL militants. Kobani has been besieged by ISIL fighters for more than a month. Weeks of US-led air strikes on the insurgents? positions have failed to break the siege. The town although largely deserted by civilians has come to symbolise the brutal march of ISIL and saving it has become a priority.
