Haia seeks scholars' view on Ice Bucket Challenge

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has asked the Senior Scholars Commission for an official Islamic opinion on the "Ice Bucket Challenge" that has created a rage across the world. The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. A Haia spokesman said the commission would **t intervene in the matter as long as people only pour cold water on their bodies with the aim of collecting donations. He did **t believe the challenge is against Islam but said an official Islamic opinion on the matter is required so that the Haia will k**w what to do about it.
