Rights of mental patients defined

A new law on the treatment of the mentally ill has banned hospitals from discharging such patients and allowed them to appoint a representative to defend their rights inside medical facilities where they are receiving treatment. The mental health care law, adopted by the Council of Ministers about two months ago, stresses that mental patients accused of crimes should remain in hospitals until a medical evaluation of their condition is completed.
