The explosion occurred while maintenance works and technical tests were being carried out at the main liquefied petroleum gas tank at the service zone in the hospital premises, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The gas tank exploded at around 9.15 a.m. The explosion resulted in a huge blaze that spread to the building which houses the tanks and surrounding areas. Officials and technicians from Saudi Binladin Company, which is operating the tank, and Saudi National Gas & Industrialization Company (GASCO) were carrying out the maintenance works after shutting down the tank.
