ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said his resignation will create a crisis in the country.
Talking to senior journalists and anchorpersons here at the Prime Minister’s House, the premier said force will **t be used against the sit-ins of the PTI and PAT. While rejecting the politics of Dharnas on the Constitution Avenue, he said parliament, civil society, lawyers, judiciary and media stand united to defend the democracy and constitutionalism.
The premier said the government would try to resolve the matter through dialogue and peaceful means instead of using force as the protesters include women and children. He said some people were desperate to get dead bodies for their political gains, but the government would **t allow this.
The prime minister does **t appear in any mood to resign but seems preparing to fight out this challenge through peaceful means. When asked if he apprehends possible intervention of thearmy, the prime minister said he is full of confidence and does **t even think of any such thing. He avoided to express himself when asked as to who was behind Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri.
To a**ther question, he totally rejected the impression that the Pakistan Army was on the driving seat and was mediating between the government and the PTI and PAT. He said that being a state institution, the military could be and should be consulted on security matters, but there was ** truth in such a perception.
Regarding the recent press release issued by the ISPR, which is considered by many as unnecessary, the prime minister, instead of giving a straight answer, said that such press releases are issued by the ISPR after consultation with the government.
The premier said that during the last 14 months of his tenure, he tried his level best to improve the civil-military relationship which, he explained, is vital for a brighter future of Pakistan. The prime minister took pride in the fact that in the present crisis created by PAT and PTI, parliament, the opposition parties, the lawyers community, civil society and even the judiciary stand united in the defence of democracy and constitutional rule. He said all these institutions and people are **t doing this in their love for him or his government but for democracy and constitutionalism, which is positive for Pakistan and the system.
Commenting on the resolution passed in favour of democracy by the National Assembly on Thursday, the prime minister said it was a great victory for those who wanted the rule of law and constitutionalism in the country and believed in resolving issues within the parameters of law and the Constitution.
He lamented that because of PAT, PTI sit-ins, the country’s eco**my was hurting. He disclosed that the presidents of Sir Lanka and Maldives had already cancelled their visits to Pakistan because of this. He said he was **t sure about the upcoming high level visit from China.
The prime minister said the government showed a big heart by allowing the PTI and PAT to stage their sit-ins in Islamabad and then even let them move into the Red Zone. However, he lamented that the PAT workers made hostage **t only parliament by blocking its gates but also tried to march towards the PM’s House.
He said that the PAT and PTI were using women and children as human shields. He added that he could **t think of using force in the presence of women and children. Nawaz Sharif was of the view that he preferred dialogue in the past and would stick to peaceful means even **w.

He said the country can**t afford the current situation as the crisis could harm the country.
He said all the political parties in the National Assembly have expressed confidence in his leadership except for one that is protesting in front of the assembly. He said all the political forces are on the same page and the government will fully respect the mandate of the people.
Nawaz said **body in the country supported the illegal and extra-constitutional agenda of the two political groups. He said protest is the democratic right of the opposition parties, but ** unconstitutional demand presented by the marchers would be accepted.
Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the government had ** plan of using force against the protesters. He said the Prime Minister’s House does **t even k**w that the IG Police, Islamabad, had been transferred. He said the government had **t attacked the protesters as yet and it had ** plans to attack them in future. “The army is just doing its duty under the Constitution and it will continue to do the same in future,” the minister said.
