PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday directed the Charsadda district police ******r (DPO) to ensure protection to the family members of a missing person who were reportedly receiving life threats from some police ******rs for the case registered against an intelligence agency.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Malik Manzoor Hussain and Justice Ikramullah Khan issued the directives after receiving an application filed by Muhammad Idrees, son of Muhammad Gul, who was first allegedly picked up by the security forces in 2009 and **w shifted to the internment centre in Swat district. The bench also issued **tice to the Charsadda DPO and station house ******r (SHO) of the Mandani Police Station to submit replies and explain as to why the police ******rs were pressuring the family members after registering a first information report (FIR) against the Military Intelligence in the missing person case.
Abdul Lateef Afridi appeared for the petitioner in the case. He submitted in the court that the petitioner Muhammad Idrees, as per the direction of the commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, lodged an FIR at the Mandani Police Station against the 4 Engineer 37 Division of Military Intelligence (MI) stationed in Swat under Section 365 (kidnapping) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on May 7, 2014.
He further argued that after lodging the FIR, the police ******rs were under pressure from the agency and asking the petitioner to withdraw the FIR or else the whole family would face serious consequences.
In the FIR, lodged by the Montazira, wife of the missing person, Muhammad Gul, **w shifted to the internment centre in Swat, claimed that first the security forces on December 2009 picked up her husband and son Muhammad Ismail. She stated that her son Muhammad Ismail was freed on February 29, 2011 but her husband’s whereabouts were **t k**wn.
