ISLAMABAD: The Red Zone, housing the most sensitive installations, including the Diplomatic Enclave, Parliament House, Supreme Court of Pakistan, President and Prime Minister Houses, has been given under the control of the army to maintain law and order in the specific area.

The army has been requisitioned under Article 245 of the Constitution.Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said whoever is playing the game, the army is **t behind it.

Addressing a press conference at the Punjab House in response to the decision of the PAT and PTI leadership to enter into the Red Zone, he said the decision had been taken at a high-level meeting attended by the prime minister, army chief and relevant cabinet members, adding, “Violent aggression will **t be tolerated.”

The Rangers, Frontier Constabulary and police have been deployed as the front force in three tiers to block the invaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Party (PAT), the minister said.

The PTI and PAT had **t agreed to resolve political issues through political negotiations and remained adamant on their aggressive strategy. He said Imran had assured him in a text message that they will **t enter the Red Zone.

The basic demand of Imran Khan was to recount votes in four constituencies which later increased to 10 which was accepted with an open mind by the government but he deviated from his claim, Nisar said and added that the PML-N government believed in democracy and tried to resolve issues through democratic means and gave them a free hand to agitate against the sitting government.

“The democratic system can**t be wound up through a violent mob of ten to twenty thousand,” the minister said.He said the political battle should and will continue. But, the policy of ‘might is right’ would be the wrong approach to adopt, he said, adding, “The one with greater strength wins, is ** longer a way to move forward in today’s world.”

He said civil disobedience was adopted in case of foreign occupation in a country and such a move was made against the State and **t the government. “This kind of step can tear up the State,” he maintained.

Nisar said that Imran Khan was taking revenge from the government and people of Pakistan for **t being able to gather one million people as he had claimed. He said that regardless of the provocation from the PTI and PAT, the government responded with a goodwill gesture and facilitated them and gave them a free hand to move as they wished.

“There are serious security alerts from the sensitive intelligence agencies and friendly countries informing us of terrorist attacks on the leadership of the PTI and PAT as well as rallies,” Ch Nisar Ali Khan said.

“We have the responsibility of security on our shoulders, especially is the Red Zone where embassies of friendly and antagonist countries are housed and we have international obligations to provide protection to them at all costs,” the interior minister said. He added that the government had to protect the embassy buildings and diplomats as a major compulsion. “Other than the Diplomatic Enclave, there are many sensitive buildings, including the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Parliament House, President House, PM House and Foreign ******, housed in the Red Zone,” Nisar said.

“Imran Khan is repeatedly saying that he believes in democracy and a peaceful struggle for the revamping of the political system but what kind of democracy does he believe in when he is provoking people to aggression,” Nisar asked adding, “His policy reflects terrorism.”

“There is ** strain of the protest on the government but the threat of violence is obviously there as the government does **t want bloodshed,” the interior minister said, adding that the government had ** option but to save the lives of the people and to protect the most sensitive area of the capital city.

Imran Khan has assured in his speeches that his mob will **t attack buildings located in the Diplomatic Enclave but most of the participants of the march, who have come here for the first time, can**t differentiate between government buildings and embassies, the interior minister said adding, “Who will be responsible for any untoward incident against diplomats or embassies if the violent mob does **t accept any guidance?”

“We have offered a peaceful settlement through negotiations as there is ** way to reach any conclusion through aggression,” Nisar said adding, “Don’t set a new tradition.” “After an over three-hour consultation with the army chief, the government has decided to place the security to the Red Zone under military control,” Nisar said adding that Rangers, FC and police had been deployed in the Red Zone in three tiers while the military would be responsible for vital installations. “The army will operate under articles 245 and 131,” the minister said.

He said that our army was fighting against aggression and sacrificing their lives to save the country, adding that the nation should cooperate with the army at this moment instead of creating trouble in this atmosphere.
