An interior ministry statement blamed demonstrators for the violence, charging that unidentified men threw a petrol bomb at the jail where opposition leader Mussalam al-Barrak has been held for the past five days. Opposition groups plan a huge protest march later Sunday to the courts in Kuwait City to press for the release of Barrak, a former MP whose trial is due to begin on Monday. The KUNA statement said the emir, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, called on everyone "to comply to preserve the country's security and stability".
