Seven-year-old, Simone Lim won more than just the Pokأ©mon Sword and Shield Junior Championships grand final this weekend. She also won our hearts with her shy smile as she secured her win, just before a friend rushes in to give her a celebration hug. She even made her acceptance speech, in which she thanked her friends and family, while hugging her huge Eevee toy. Aww.
Lim, who is from Singapore, is a relative newcomer and still in her first competitive season. This was her first major tournament and saw her go up against the much more experienced (and older) Justin Miranda-Radbord who had multiple international championship wins under his belt. The odds seemed stacked against her, especially when the third – and deciding – game saw Lim’s lineup taken down to just one Pokأ©mon while her opponent still had two. But she read Miranda-Radbord’s moves well and managed to claim the victory.
The Pokأ©mon Oceania International Championships took place in Melbourne, Australia this weekend and attracted trainers from all over the world. The gathering saw Pokأ©mon enthusiasts test themselves in both card and video game tournaments for small cash prizes.
