If you’re eagerly anticipating CD Projekt RED’s upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077, and are thinking of grabbing it for your Xbox, you’re in luck. An announcement from the official Twitter account earlier today has stated that if you own the game on Xbox One, you’ll get a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version when the next-gen console releases later this year.
It’s a strong move, especially after the disappointment that the game is being delayed until September. It’s pretty sensible too because that’s fairly close to the end of the year when both next-gen consoles are supposed to launch. This way, they should avoid lower sales because of those that may put off buying the game on current generation consoles.
Coincidentally, it seems that CD Projekt RED is also now Europe’s second-largest game developer, according to a post on Reddit (via PC Gamer). The last few months have seen the value of the company go from $6.8 billion to over $8 billion, putting them just behind Ubisoft Entertainment in France.
Aside from the anticipation of Cyberpunk 2077, which was originally set for release in April before the delay was announced, there’s little doubt that the recent increase in CD Projekt RED’s value is largely due to the huge success of the Netflix Witcher series. Henry Cavill’s Geralt is so popular that the show has helped boost sales of The Witcher 3 game by over 554% across all platforms. Toss a coin to your – wait, no don’t. They have plenty.
