There has been a lot of talk recently about Warzone, the battle royale mode that is supposedly heading to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare next month. The mode is still unconfirmed by Activision and the information that we do have is via a number of pretty convincing leaks. But following the post of a screenshot on Reddit, it seems that Activision has had enough and is taking action to discover the identity of the offending Reddit users.
According to the site Torrentfreak, Activision has started ‘filing aggressive takedowns on copyright grounds’ which includes a DMCA subpoena from a US court which orders Reddit to reveal the personal details of a Reddit user that posted the supposed cover art for Warzone. The publisher has also been issuing takedown orders to anyone that grabbed the image and has posted it online.

Not sure what it is. Possibly Battle Royale.” The screenshot showed a group of Call of Duty characters standing on top of a vehicle with the words ‘Call of Duty: Warzone‘ emblazoned above them. The post has since been taken down and, as spotted by Eurogamer, Assyrian2410 has now deleted their Reddit account.
But it appears that Activision isn’t stopping there. The subreddit dedicated to Modern Warfare‘s battle royale, /r/modernwarzone, has also come under fire and the founder, DougDagnabbit, has received multiple takedown orders for some of the subreddit’s content. He spoke to Eurogamer about the legal action.
“Every other takedown that’s come since has been more of the same, with the community’s original content being affected adversely due to them copyright striking anything that they see fit. Even information that’s easily available in-game without using exploits or cheats of any kind.”

The official teaser trailer for Season 2, as well as a ‘Classified’ menu option in-game, prompted some speculation, earlier this month. And hints of a ‘Toxic Event’ have also shown up in the in-game store which also points towards the potential battle royale mode.
If anything, this legal action seems to confirm Warzone’s existence. Rumours, speculation, and apparent leaks are one thing but the fact that Activision is so determined to discover the identity of the person that posted a screenshot just seems to support the fact that it’s genuine.
