</p>ITâ??S been raining for three days straight in Miami but Yousef is not letting the weather get him down. In the sunshine state for a Circus X party at the World Music Conference and to promote a bunch of new tracks, the Crosby-born DJ seems happier than ever.
And he is not about to let a spot of unseasonably wet weather get him down. â??The sun has come out now anyway,â?* he laughs.
Yousefâ??s buoyant mood may also have something to do with the fact his Circus Easter Sunday party at Camp and Furnace has now sold out.
â??Easter has always been one of our biggest parties,â?* he says. â??I think this line-up has got everything that is current and hot in 21st century electronic music. Maya Jane Coles and Maceo Plex are right at the cutting edge of music and are genuine cool chaps and we are introducing Bicep to Circus for the first time. With all that freshness on the bill we thought we should balance it out with some maturity so we have got Steve Lawler. He is blazing hot right now. I donâ??t think he has ever been in a better place.â?*
The same could be said for Yousef. Six months after the release of his second album A Product Of Your Environment, on Circus Recordings, it has caught the attention of label bosses at Defected who have picked up some tracks.
â??One of them, BEG, went global. It was one of the biggest selling records they have had in two years.
â??I have moved on from those records already though,â?* Yousef continues. â??I have a track Iâ??m pushing here in Miami called Float Away and it is getting a great response.
â??The vocals came from a girl who comes to Circus, Laura J McKenna. She is a young mum from Runcorn and super talented. I think that track is going to pop at some point and am looking to get it signed. I played it on Boxing Day at Circus and it went nuts!â?*
Next month will see another release, the celebratory Circus X featuring tracks from favourite guest DJs over the years.
â??I asked people like Carl Cox, Derrick Carter and Steve Lawler to create a new track for us and the response has been so great I am going to have to do a part one and part two.
â??Part one should be out in April and part two in June.â?*
After a short break away from the place while it was renovated, April will also see Circus return to its spiritual home, The Masque â?? now renamed the East Village Arts Club.
It is a homecoming Yousef cannot wait for: â??We will be in the theatre on April 20 and it is tremendous. The place has been getting renovated for six months and it is a proper job, a massive refit from top to bottom. The theatre steps are still there in the theatre though. I know people have been worried about them!
â??It is a proper venue now. We are bringing the spirit of The Masque into the 21st century.â?*
That Yousefâ??s professional life is going well is in no doubt and with his first wedding anniversary just days away so, it seems, is his personal life.
Are there still things for the thirtysomething to conquer then? Yousef is typically chilled about the future.
â??I just think I am fortunate to be able to make a living out of a hobby because that is what this is. The fact that it has gone on and on is great.
â??I am ambitious but I am happy to have enough money to pay the rent, treat my wife and have a little holiday. I am not one of those guys who has to have the big house or the Ferrari.
â??Life is good.â?*
