</p>X Factor star Christopher Maloney knows all about the benefits of getting a little help from those in the know when it comes to following your dream.

Now Christopher is intending to share his experience on the show, and his talents, with young would-be performers â?? and heâ??s enlisting a few familiar showbiz pals too.

The singer has revealed his plans to open a theatre and arts academy in Kirkdale and heâ??ll be able to call on former mentor Gary Barlow, and celebrity mates Daniella Westbrook, Marcus Collins and Jane McDonald for support.

He will be a vocal coach himself, and heâ??ll be inviting them to visit as guests, offering weekend lessons to youngsters in singing, dance â?? from street to musical theatre â?? and drama workshops.

â??Itâ??s something Iâ??ve always wanted to do, but Iâ??ve never had the chance, the time or money to do it before,â?* Christopher tells Insider.

â??I used to be in the Phoenix Roadshow from a really young age and it was always something I thought about.

â??Since X Factor Iâ??ve wanted to give something back to the community, especially to kids who are looking to gain confidence. Anyone who saw my first audition will remember my nerves were gone, so I know how it feels to need that bit of encouragement.â?*

Christopher says his academy will give children a safe and fun environment to learn performing arts, and heâ??s keen to have as many boys as girls taking part.

â??I looked at a lot of premises then I realised we had this right on our doorstep,â?* he explains. â??I went to the Kirkdale Centre as a child, to voluntary drama classes and the Little Nippers Club, but then I went back recently and thought it was brilliant.

â??Thereâ??s a huge stage and rehearsal rooms, everything we need, and itâ??s important to me that itâ??s in the area I grew up so we can focus on local kids and creating local jobs. Iâ??m very loyal to where I come from and I think it can be labelled unfairly so I want to help change peopleâ??s views.â?*

Christopher is setting up his website, and anyone interested in courses can get in contact by emailing [email protected] .uk

Alex Gerrard’s summer plans

Does Alex Gerrard have a bad feeling about Brazil, or is she just not keen on four weeks of extra footy in the summer?

Insider only asks because it seems the super-glam WAG has made plans … while, wins permitting, husband Steven will still be battling it out in the World Cup.

Although England boss Roy Hodgson has said heâ??ll happily welcome the WAGs entourage, unlike his managerial predecessor, it looks like Alex is Ibiza-bound between the quarter and semi-finals.

She tweeted her intentions to be supporting another local hero â?? DJ Anton Powers â?? at the Sin Sunday Ocean Beach club party on July 6. Letâ??s hope Stevie isnâ??t her date for the night.

The Overtones enjoy leisurely stay in Liverpool

Harmony hotties The Overtones were spotted making the most of a leisurely couple of days in Liverpool around their sell-out Philharmonic gig.

The five-piece vocal group decided to book a two-night stay in town after admitting that it was their favourite city to perform in.

The Overtones
They managed to spend a well-deserved day off here and were seen enjoying a lazy afternoon at the newly opened Ibis Styles hotel on Dale Street where they couldn’t stop admiring the Beatles themed rooms.

After fitting in some shopping and a sightseeing stroll along Hope Street, band members Timmy Matley and Lachie Chapman then headed for a chilled boys night out at the Odeon in Liverpool One.

Abby faces her toughest audience yet

Performing in front of a TV audience of millions is no big deal for Waterloo Road actress Abby Mavers, she does it every week.

But the 24-year-old from Gateacre admits she was just a little overawed to speak to a crowd of 500 … although it was at the Scottish Assembly.

Abby, who plays Dynasty Barry in the BBC school drama, was invited to give a talk to MPs for International Womenâ??s Day.

â??After the rape storyline in Waterloo Road, I was contacted by a womenâ??s group organiser and asked to speak at one of their events about what itâ??s like to be in the acting business and in the media,â?* she explains.

Actress Abby Mavers
â??She must have been impressed because she asked me to go with her to the Scottish Parliament and talk again.

â??This time the theme was how women all around the world could improve their lives. I read a lot of reports about children and social media and websites, and how thereâ??s been an increase in bullying, self-harming and suicide because of some of them.

â??I wanted to highlight how young women especially have a responsibility to lead by example.

â??I know from speaking to drama groups for younger ones at my agency, All Stars Casting, what a difference having a positive role model can make in encouraging them to push themselves,â?* she says.

As for her star turn in Parliament, Abby says it was nerve-racking but worth it.

â??It was such a different experience to acting, where you have a script and itâ??s a group thing: the rest of the cast, the director, the cameraman, everyoneâ??s involved. With this it was just me. I looked up after my first line and my legs went like Bambiâ??s!â?*

Sir Paul McCartney and wife Nancy Shevell get the VIP experience

When youâ??re Paul McCartney â?? Sir Paul to us mere non-legendary mortals â?? youâ??re probably used to special treatment wherever you go.

And it seems even nipping out for a spot of showbiz dinner brings its own VIP experience.

Insider hears Macca and his lovely missus, Nancy Shevell, dropped in to Hollywood restaurant Il Piccolino with fellow former Beatle Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach.

When staunch veggie Sir Paul wasnâ??t sure what to order off the menu, he cut to the chase and headed straight to the top.

An LA source reports: â??The owner, who is a friend, escorted him into the kitchen where Paul, who loves to cook, watched intently as the chef prepared veggies chosen by the star.â?*

Not only was his meal made to order, but apparently Sir Paulâ??s customised dish also came with the recipe, delivered alongside his plate.
