About a year ago now, reports surfaced that suggested Netflix was working on a live-action TV series based on Resident Evil. According to those reports, this in-development show would be fairly faithful to the games, exploring the inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and way the world responded to the release of the T-Virus and the mayhem it caused in Raccoon City. <em/>

We’ve had quite a while to sit with those rumours and dream about how cool it’d be if they turned out to be true. The good news is that a recent development seems to have confirmed those year-old reports. A full synopsis for a live-action Resident Evil Netflix series has leaked online – apparently thanks to Netflix itself.

Plot details and a brief description of the original series were apparently uploaded by mistake to the Netflix Media Center. It was swiftly taken down, but not before being shared far and wide across the internet. What’s really interesting is that the synopsis seems to line up completely with the details that were rumoured a year ago. See for yourself below.

It has finally been confirmed that a Netflix adaptation of Resident Evil is in the works. Attached is a description taken from Netflix’s Media Center. “The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, 26 years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak.”

It would seem that instead of attempting to re-tell the events of any of the games, the Netflix series will instead show us an original story that runs adjacent to the Capcom titles.

The synopsis certainly has me intrigued, anyway. There’s plenty of scope to explore Umbrella and what – if anything – the staff there knew about the shadowy company’s true intentions. I mean, how would you feel if it turned out the company you worked for turned out to be responsible for biological terror attacks?

Oh, and what’re the odds that the “decommissioned” asylum turns out to be another Umbrella training facility full of zombies and monsters, just like the Spencer Mansion from the very first game? I would be so into that.

For right now, we still can’t say for sure that this Resident Evil show is legit. It’s certainly looking more likely than ever before, but as always, we need to wait for official confirmation before we can get too excited. If this leak is the real deal, I’d imagine we’ll hear something from Netflix and/or Capcom soon enough.

Man, I hope this is the real deal.
