Which Pokأ©mon is greatest of all? From school playgrounds to pubs, it’s a question that has caused blazing arguments and heated discussions since 1998 (or before then, if you got your Pokأ©mon kicks before the series officially came to the UK). At least back in those early days, we only had 151 critters to fight over. But as Game Freak continues to churn out new entries, the number of Pokأ©mon increases, making it harder than ever before to decide which ‘mon is the best one.
As of Pokأ©mon Sword/Shield, we have an eye-watering 890 monsters to choose from. How on Earth are we to come together and find common ground? How can we finally, definitively decide on the Pokأ©mon that stands above all others? It might seem hopeless, but Google wants to try and end the conflict once and for all.
Ahead of Pokأ©mon Day later this month (February 27th), the tech giant is holding a massive “Pokأ©mon Of The Year” vote. If you head here (or just type Pokأ©mon into Google), you’ll be able to vote for one monster from each region. You’ll can vote for one Pokأ©mon per region once a day until February 14th, before the final results are announced on the 27th.

It’ll be interesting to see which Pokأ©mon takes the crown, as well as how the votes break down by region and generation. Will the earlier monsters dominate the vote, or will naysayers of the later games find themselves surprised when some of the more recent creations take the top spots? We’ll have to wait and see.
Before then, it’s worth taking a look at the results of this vote from last year. More than 52,000 fans cast their vote in a massive Reddit survey, though it’s worth noting that this was before Sword & Shield introduced its own batch of critters. The results of that particular vote were, I have to say, fairly predictable.
Charizard took top spot, with 1,107 votes. Behind the fiery lizard we had Gengar (1,056), Arcanine (923), Bulbasaur (710), and Blaziken (613). My own personal favourite, Umbreon, was just behind with 607 votes.

Gen One bagged 18,289 of votes, which was nearly double second place – Gen Three, with 9,469. This was followed by Gen Two, and then Four, Five, Six, and Seven in order.
We can’t say for sure whether or not this survey will be indicative of the upcoming Google results of course, as it’s likely considerably more than 52,000 will have a say in this latest vote. Whatever happens, it should make for some interesting data. Charizard will probably win again, though.
