Oscars organisers are responding to the backlash over omissions from this year’s Memorial montage.
Viewers were upset that Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale star Luke Perry as well as Disney’s Descendants star Cameron Boyce were both left out of the segment, following their tragic deaths this past year.
Some called Perry’s slight particularly “disgusting” and “disrespectful” because he actually was in this year’s Oscar-winning film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Now, a statement from Oscars bosses claims that neither star was snubbed â?? an online Academy memorial includes entries for both stars, as well as others who were omitted like The Devil’s Rejects‘ Sid Haig, Oscar nominee Carol Channing and SpongeBob SquarePants comedian Tim Conway.
An Academy spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday (February 11): “The Academy receives hundreds of requests to include loved ones and industry colleagues in the Oscars In Memoriam segment. An executive committee representing every branch considers the list and makes selections for the telecast based on limited available time.
“All the submissions are included on Oscar.com and will remain on the site throughout the year. Luke Perry and Cameron Boyce are remembered in the Oscar.com gallery.”

Controversy over the Memorial montage at the Oscars is certainly nothing new, with each year’s ceremony usually drawing complaints for missing major figures.
The 2019 Oscars ceremony was slammed for omitting Austin Powers star Verne Troyer, while the Academy has left off Batman ’66 star Adam West and RoboCop‘s Miguel Ferrer as well as Alexis Arquette in previous years as well.
The 92nd Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 9.
