Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Outback Relief Pack has already raised an incredible $1.6 million USD ($2.38 million AUD) to help those affected by the Australian bushfires that have devastated much of the country – and continue to. Developer Infinity Ward confirmed last month that 100% of the proceeds from the Australian-themed bundle would be donated to bushfire relief efforts.
Initially launched as The Outback Pack, it was changed to the Outback Relief Pack following vocal demand from within the Call of Duty community. Fans swiftly and loudly called on Infinity Ward and Activision to donate their earnings from the bundle and offer some much-needed aid. The two companies obliged, and made it so.
The cosmetic bundle includes the Bushranger operator skin, a legendary blueprint, a new finishing move, a koala-shaped charm, and some other cosmetic add-ons. Purchasing the pack also earned you a free battle pass tier skip. Throughout January, all purchases of the pack were donated. Activision also confirmed that all proceeds made from the pack before the announcement was made would be donated.
In a new blog post, Activision has spoken a little bit more about where exactly this money will be going. The publisher is working with Direct Relief, an international humanitarian aid organisation, who will work to ensure “100% of the funding” goes to Australian relief.
“With this donation, Direct Relief has already started to provide much needed emergency and health supplies in coordination with local aid groups across the country as they respond to the pressing needs of millions of Australians affected by these tragic conditions,” Activision wrote.
“Thank you to fans and our community. Your inspiration drove the Outback Relief Pack. On behalf of everyone here at the studio, we thank you for your support,” added Patrick Kelly, creative director at Infinity Ward.
A number other developers and publishers also got involved last month. Ubisoft Australia donated $30,000 AUD to the Australia Red Cross Disaster and Recovery Relief Fund, while Destiny developer Bungie put together a limited edition T-shirt. Players who purchased this special item got themselves an exclusive in-game emblem.
