ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has reacted to a news item and a cartoon, published in The News on Tuesday, Jan 14. Following is the text of the “Letter of Objection”, received by the newspaper. “A report in the newspaper entitled ‘Clerics Get Lost! Iran protests rage over plane disaster, quoting from anonymous sources in Dubai has chosen a negative, exaggerated, insulting and offensive title and content against the Islamic Republic of Iran. “The Embassy, while presenting its compliments to this newspaper, strongly denies and condemns the report and points out that the publication of such material is against good neighbourlihood, good relations and the increasing cooperation between the two countries.
“Also on page 6 of the same daily newspaper, a disrespectful cartoon depicts the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is worth to recall that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not only the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but also a great leader of the Shiites in the world. Publication of such negative material about them would offend and insult the most senior official of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and would further upset and arouse the sentiments of His Excellency’s followers, especially the Shiite community of Pakistan.
“The report and cartoon, in addition to insulting Iran's top political, religious and judicial officials, offend all the scholars and clerics who are religious leaders of the people and important social reference groups. Insulting religious intellectuals is not dissent for the media in an Islamic country. Also, the dissemination of false and obscene material about Iran's internal developments from unreliable and uncertain sources will have negative effects on public opinion.
“It is noteworthy that in the context of regional and global tensions and crises, biased and unilateral material quoted from unreliable sources and the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not appropriate for the media claiming neutrality. It is also in conflict with the Pakistani government's efforts to mediate between the parties to the tensions.
“On the other hand, the media of terrorist states, enemies of Islam and their regional allies appear to be demanding public distraction from terrorist acts and atrocities committed by the US government which assassinated General Qasem Suleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandes in the bombing of the Baghdad Airport as well as the recent US bombardments on the cities of Herat and Takhar in Afghanistan are a couple of examples.
“So their dependant media are publishing fake and false news and publications about the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a pioneer in combating state terrorism and American criminals. It is in contrast with the freedom-seeking manner of media of the brotherly and Islamic State of Pakistan to copy such biased, unilateral and negative material without investigation. The media of Pakistan's Brotherhood and Islamic State are expected to follow in the footsteps of the enemies of Islam and advocate Islamic unity. Instead, the dear editor-in-chief of that newspaper is requested to publish credible and realistic reports of the effects of Islamic brotherhood in Pakistan, Iraq and Iran, especially in the days when Muslims are shouting for freedom and call for the withdrawal of trans-regional forces.
“Also, it is obvious that negative material is not in harmony with the good neighborliness and growing trend of relations between the two friendly nations of Iran and Pakistan and that honourable newspaper is expected to avoid publishing materials that would undermine the atmosphere of trust between the two peoples.“That would be appreciated if the above-mentioned reply gets published in the News daily newspaper, under the law of the press.”
