KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani has said that the incumbent inspector general of Sindh police, instead of exposing the Sindh government and police to public ridicule, should better concentrate on his own work.Talking to newsmen here at the Expo Centre on Monday on the occasion of 15th Build Asia Exhibition, the Sindh information minister clarified that there was no interference in the working of provincial police force. He advised the IG of Sindh Police to perform his functions in accordance with the Constitution. The provincial minister suspected that the IG Police was used to send letters (to the government) on someone’s direction. He said that the IG police had earlier written a letter to the Sindh government in the previous tenure to surrender the services of five police officials to the federal government. “Had the IG been empowered to this effect, he should have done that transfers on his own,” he said. He said that court decisions regarding transfers and postings of police officers should be implemented in the entire country on uniform basis. The provincial minister said that he wanted to know what authority had been exercised in the past to do transfer of district police officer of Pakpattan and IG of Punjab Police as no hue and cry was made on that instances. “Police should go along with the government as we do have certain obligations and we have to fulfill them,” said the Information minister.Separately addressing a press conference, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that the Sindh Police force was subservient to the Sindh government. He said that the IG of Sindh Police was also subordinate to the Sindh chief minister. He said that authority of the elected government was being challenged in the case of Sindh province only and it was not being done in the case of other provinces. He said that five IGs had been transferred in Punjab and none of them had held any press conference but here in the case of Sindh the cases related to transfers of police officials had reached the forum of judiciary. "Whether it is IG, chief secretary, or any other official, all are subordinate to the elected government,” he said.“If in case any police official is interested in doing politics, then he should better resign from service, then wait for two years and then afterwards join politics like myself,” said Imtiaz Sheikh who is a retired civil servant.Sheikh, who belongs to District Shikarpur, where the services of SSP were surrendered to the federal government recently, said that no police operation was being conducted in Shikarpur. The provincial minister said that if in case he was summoned by the Provincial Public Safety and Police Complaints Commission, then he would appear before the commission (over the transfer of SSP Shikarpur) and natives of Shikarpur would also appear along with him. He said that he had been thrice duly elected by people of Shikarpur and people of the district were well-informed as they believed in electing a person who did public service. He said that the Sindh Police were a brave police force but few of its officials were involved in doing conspiracy against the Sindh government. He said that he had no personal issue with the IG Sindh.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/Pku7-F3ouzo
