As a nation, we were not always obsessed with bone density. It was not until the mid 90's that the World Health Organization took the stance that "normal" bone density for all women should be as dense as a healthy 30 year old female. Common sense tells you that nothing remains the same as a 30 year old as our body ages. But, the WHO labeled Bone Mineral Density Deficiency (Osteoporosis and Osteopenia) as a disease much like menopause was once defined as a "disease". When menopause was labeled as a "disease", it targeted women as needing another medical intervention to "rescue" them by presrcibing synthetic hormones that caused heart disease, stokes and cancer.
