As per a report released on May 12, 2013, just about 2 percent of India's youth and only about 7 percent of the whole working-age population have received vocational training. This is the reason why one of the perennial problems Indian industries faces-lack of skilled manpower. Hereditary training (carrying on the family's trade like farming or pottery making) or learning on the job continues to generate more skills than the whole formal vocational training set-up in the country which includes 8,800 ITI and 450 polytechnics.
