In June 1938, the golden age of comics started with the appearance of Superman in Action #1, which was released by DC Comics. Some adventure comics had been published prior to this time, but Batman appeared in 1939. But, these heroes had a lot more in common with the pulp magazine alternatives than they had with the super-heroes who came afterwards.
