Niccolo Machiavell stunned Europe (and ultimately the world) on his advocacy on the use of ruthless tactics in acquiring and maintaining political power. He completely shunned conventional morality and the use of emotions in guiding important decisions. "The Prince" further gave flame to the phrase "the ends justifies the means", with many analysts and historians making the term "Machiavellian" synonymous with "Ruthlessness". Machiavelli is probably not the best guy to listen to, but you could actually learn a lot from the Treatise, despite its support for unethical applications and complete rejections of emotions in the practice of politics. Some of his points could be applied to our everyday life.
