The origin of roulette is a mystery but historians give the French credit for having invented it in the 1700's. The table game basics have not changed in over 200 years. There are some modern versions such as Rapid Roulette, Electronic Roulette, and Video Roulette, where players wager with virtual chips on a touch screen complete with a virtual felt layout, but the fundamental bets and payouts are the same as those the French nobles gambled on long ago. Most tables today still utilize a croupier (dealer), a wheel, the felt betting layout and chips, as does the Riverboat version.
