Woman dies after being hit by BRT bus in test run

PESHAWAR: A woman died when hit by a bus during the test drive on the Bus Rapid Transit track in Phase-III Hayatabad on Saturday.The woman was crossing the BRT track in the posh township when the bus hit her. The BRT buses and drivers are currently going through test driving in the city. “A woman while crossing the BRT track was hit by a BRT bus. She was shifted to hospital where she was pronounced dead,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt, Waseem Riaz, told reporters. Taking notice of the incident, the provincial government directed the deputy commissioner to submit report about the incident forthwith.Many people cross the track regularly since the service is yet to be launched and there are no overhead bridges at most of the places. People cross the track through the broken fences. Meanwhile, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader and former senior minister Sikandar Hayat Sherpao held the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government responsible for the incident. In a statement, he said that the government was using other routes for the test run of the BRT buses. He said that roads in the provincial capital had been narrowed by the BRT project so the pedestrians were compelled to walk on the main roads.
