LAHORE: After a few months of relative respite, the menace of power loadshedding has reappeared to haunt the people ahead of summer demand.A spokesman for Power Division, Ministry of Energy, admitted that there were outages for a few hours in the evening. He hastened to add that the gap in the electricity supply and demand was bridged later. Anyway, abrupt cut in power supply was an unpleasant surprise for consumers as they have no clue to unscheduled outages. Power supply was abruptly disconnected in the evening at around 4pm, said Irfan, a resident of New Garden Town. “I was expecting that it would be a brief suspension in electricity supply. However, it proved to be my wishful thinking as electricity supply was not restored any time soon.”The residents of posh localities like Model Town were also victim of power loadshedding on Saturday. There were outages of over one hour in the evening. When a consumer called helpline of Electricity Department, Model Town Society, an official said that bulk supply of the society had been stopped on account of loadshedding.Ali, a resident of Muhafiz Town, said that hide and seek of power supply disturbed the routine life. “We had no clue what is going on; what is reason of power cuts,” he said. Mansoor, who lives on Canal Road, said that electricity supply used to be suspended on a regular basis especially on the pretext of maintenance. “Honestly, we don’t precisely know why power supply is shut every Monday in my locality from dawn to dusk,” he lamented. The Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) is apparently also in the dark as far as frequent suspension in power supply is concerned. When contacted, Mujahid Pervaiz, Lesco chief executive, had nothing to share about the persistent failures in power supply. Zafar Yab Khan, a spokesman for Power Division, said that there was suspension in power supply just for a few hours on various occasion. He said the pressure on supply side eased following increase in electricity generation. He maintained that power generation from plants was subsequently adjusted with the demand and the gap in this regard narrowed down. It takes a few hours for power plants to utilise full capacity, he said.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/7QMxVpnEp9o
