QUETTA: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his ardent desire to develop Balochistan “in the true sense”, as he stressed winning the next elections is not a priority for his government because the province’s progress is vital to the country’s development. He made the remarks while addressing the ceremony to break ground on two mega projects — the Quetta-Zhob Double Carriageway and the Balochistan Health Complex in Quetta. The Premier said the 305 km long double carriageway would be a “real game charger” for the province as it would be the foundation upon which Balochistan would develop as it provides linkages with underdeveloped areas. A number of federal and provincial ministers, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, high ranking officials and representatives from various departments were present on the occasion. The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to Gen Bajwa for his support in establishing the Balochistan Health Complex, which he said would address public health issues, particularly, cardiac disease. He said the centre “is serious” in providing basic necessities to the people of the province and spoke about establishing a cancer hospital in Quetta in collaboration with the provincial government and the armed forces. Reiterating his government’s resolve about Naya Pakistan, the Prime Minister said he wanted real development in Balochistan. Criticising previous governments, he said they did nothing for the development of the country as poor governance resulted financial deficits.“Six billion rupees is being paid per day in lieu of loans which were borrowed by previous governments,” he said. He added: “We have to provide education, health and security to the people. We have come here not to win elections like the others, but to develop Balochistan along with Pakistan in the true sense.” He said such mega projects would bring ultimate prosperity in the country. “We will bring real change through revolutionary reforms in the society,” he added.“In the past, it was difficult to import quality medical equipments and [attract] standardised medical practitioners in Balochistan,” Khan said. “But we will Insha’Allah establish a modern cancer hospital, equipped with the latest technology as people have trouble in taking their patients to Lahore for treatment,” he added. The Prime Minister also announced that railway connectivity would be established between Quetta and Taftan and said the federal railways minister was already working on it. He also underlined the importance of planting trees and water conservation systems to meet forthcoming challenges and advised the Balochistan government to take some initiatives at local level in these areas. He said scarcity of the local people could be addressed through skilled development centres. “By doing so, they will have jobs and business opportunities in the future,” he added. Lauding the dedication of Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan for the progress and prosperity of the province, the Prime Minister urged the provincial government to make a “master plan” for Quetta. He pointed out that population and cities’ expansion are interlinked and they need to be administered through their master plans.Master plans for Islamabad and Peshawar were being developed by the relevant departments, he said. The Prime Minister said: “Good governance is the only way to serve the people.”Highlighting the salient features of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government system, he suggested the provincial government to adopt the same in Balochistan. “We can uplift Balochistan by adopting the local government system like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to streamline the funds distribution at the grassroots level in proper manner,” he said.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/60TTXXCVA4w
