By News DeskISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday and appreciated her firm stance against rising Islamophobia and global extremism after a terrorist attack at two Christchurch mosques claimed 50 lives.“Prime Minister Ardern has shown the way to other leaders in the face of rising Islamophobia and global extremism,” Khan said, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.Prime Minister Khan appreciated the quick response of the local authorities and Ardern’s “humane handling” and compassion for the Muslims who were in a state of shock after the horrific massacre at their places of worship. He said he made the telephone call on behalf of the people of Pakistan and “to thank her for her compassion, leadership and decisions that won her many admirers in Pakistan”.“Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern won the hearts of the people of Pakistan, in particular, and Muslim communities around the world, in general, for [her] adept handling of the crisis, her healing words and actions for the Muslim community,” the statement said.During the call, Ardern acknowledged the sacrifices of Pakistanis in the attack, particularly the bravery and valour of Naeem Rasheed, who tried to stop the terrorist but was killed along with his son. She assured Khan that New Zealand, while valuing the contribution of the Muslim community, would assure their freedom and protection. Ardern told Khan that New Zealand was in shock and shared with him the immediate measures taken — including the banning of all military-style semi-automatic guns and assault rifles.Prime Minister Khan conveyed his condolences over the loss of 50 precious lives and said Pakistan itself was a victim of terrorism and had lost over 70,000 innocent lives in acts of terror. “Pakistan stands by the government and people of New Zealand in this hour of grief,” he said. He also invited Ardern to visit Pakistan.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan promised he would give “very good news” to the nation within three weeks, Geo News reported. In a brief chat with reporters before welcoming his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Muhammad at the Nur Khan Airbase, Khan said the government was facing difficulties due to the indecisiveness of civil servants.He also said the National Accountability Bureau did not have enough personnel to investigate large-scale inquiries.
