Just two weeks after Apple (http://mashable.com/category/Apple/?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=) an**unced its upcoming Health app for iOS 8 (http://mashable.com/category/iOS-8?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=), Google is reportedly preparing to launch a similar service called Google Fit.
The search giant will debut a health platform at its Google I/O conference for developers later this month, according to Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2014/06/12/exclusive-google-to-launch-health-service-google-fit-at-developers-conference/). Google Fit is rumored to collect and aggregate data from fitness trackers (think Jawbone (http://mashable.com/category/Jawbone?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=) and Fitbit (http://mashable.com/category/Fitbit?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=)), as well as other health-related apps.

The move would directly compete with Apple's new Health app (and HealthKit (http://mashable.com/2014/06/03/inside-apple-healthkit/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss) for developers). The concept behind Google Fit is similar to Apple's Passbook app, the iPhone's virtual pocket for items such as airline boarding passes, movie tickets and coupons. It will be able to pull in data from other third-party apps, such as Nike, to keep all your health-related information in one hub. Read more...
