ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday emphasised the need for restoring the confidence of tax-payers in the tax system and declared that reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had become inevitable.He was chairing a high-echelon meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to discuss the tax collection system and ways to increase revenue through the tax collection increase.Federal Finance Minister Asad Umar, State Minister for Revenue Hamad Azhar, SAPMs Naeem-ul-Haq, Iftikhar Durrani, Chairman FBR Dr. Muhammad Jahanzaib Khan, Chairman Nadra Usman Yousaf Mobeen, Syed Javaid, former chairman FBR Abdullah Yousaf, Dr. Ikram ul Haq, Rashid Khan, Masood Naqvi, Abid Shaaban Ashfaq Tola and senior officials and experts attended the meeting.The meeting took stock of overall tax collection system and deliberated on various proposals for enhancing tax and revenue.Prime Minister Khan emphasised streamlining and modernizing the tax collection system and for the purpose he directed the use of sophisticated technology.The meeting also discussed reforms in the FBR. The prime minister said the existing tax system was unjust and poor people were being over-burdened by it.He said reforms in tax system and enhancing the tax base was an integral part of the PTI government’s manifesto. Imran said the present tax system and statistics didn’t support the country’s economy.“It is essential that the tax system should be reformed and people earning a handsome income should be brought in the tax net for the sake of a sustainable economy and bright future of the country.The meeting participants put their suggestions for improving the economy and a consensus was found on introduction of drastic changes in the tax system.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/cEgb8RakEJ0
