ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court (AC) Islamabad will indict seven accused in Nandipur Power Project reference including former law minister Babar Awan and former PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Monday. The court has issued notices to accused.Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik on Friday resumed the hearing in Nandipur Power Project reference. During hearing, Babar Awan withdrew his acquittal plea in Nandipur Power Project case. NAB prosecutor opposed Awan’s request for withdrawal of his petition. However, Accountability Court judge granted the plea and announced to indict him in Nandipur Power Project case on Monday. All seven accused in Nandipur Power Project include former PM Raja Pervez Ashraf, Babar Awan, former law secretary Riaz Kiyani, Masood Chishti, ex-consultant Shumaila Mahmood, former joint secretary Riaz Mahmood and ex-secretary Shahid Rafique. They will appear before the court on March 11 (Monday).Nandipur Power Project has faced delays in since its inception. A report in 2012 revealed that due to the delay in the Nandipur Power Project, the national exchequer had suffered a loss of Rs113 billion. In previous hearing, Judge Arshad Malik remarked that it has been established that Nandipur project was delayed. Now the court has to see that this delay was caused because of the former law minister Dr Babar Awan or not, he said.To this, Babar Awan said if delay is crime then there is need to make some changes in law. He informed the court that he was not the law minister when two summaries were sent to the Ministry of Law. “The new law minister did not even grant approval after I left. Approvals are the Law Secretary’s responsibility and not the minister’s,” he said.He accepted that the Nandipur project was not completed but alleged that a corruption reference was initiated against him selectively. Relaying his arguments to the court, the NAB prosecutor informed that the Rehmat Hussain Jafri Commission’s report is present. He said, “The law minister did issue one form that was required. The entire blame is on the incompetency level of the law ministry during Dr Awan’s tenure.”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/L5_tFwvrcYU
