Dumbo star Nico Parker is embarrassed by her stuffed animal audition tape for the movie, even though the homemade video landed her the lead role.
Nico tried out for director Tim Burton’s new live-action Disney film by acting out a touching moment with a plush polar bear on the kitchen floor of her home in London as her screenwriter dad, Ol Parker, shot the footage, and the rising teenage actress, who is now 14, can’t stand the thought of anyone viewing the tape again.
“The fact that it’s out there, that someone has it on, like, a computer somewhere, is horrifying,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Just thinking about it now makes me upset.”
Nico, who is Parker’s daughter with actress Thandie Newton, did not seek any help from her mum and dad as she set out to land the role, insisting, “When it came to acting, I didn’t really want advice. It was very much my own experience.”
“Her (Newton) giving me acting advice is a bit stressful, because I don’t know if you know, but she is better than I am.”
Nico stars in Dumbo opposite Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito, who also recently found himself in an embarrassing moment as he promoted the new film in Mexico – the 74 year old fell flat on his face as he walked up a flight of stairs at a press conference in Mexico City on Tuesday (05Mar19).
“I tripped,” Danny told the crowd following the tumble as applause transformed into gasps.
“I think I’m OK,” he said after several people rushed to help him get back on his feet.
Danny went on to crack jokes throughout the press conference and his representative later confirmed to USA Today that the actor was “fine” after his fall.
Dumbo reaches U.S. theatres on 29 March (19).
