ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday observed that the Interior Ministry is responsible for deaths of Pakistani prisoners abroad and told the interior secretary to find another work to do.The court sought report on repatriation of Pakistanis, languishing in foreign jails, and questioned as to whether only dead bodies of Pakistanis would be repatriated from foreign countries. A three-member bench of the apecourt headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard a case relating to plight of Pakistani nationals, languishing in foreign jails.The court took strong exception of non-appearance of Secretary Interior and after direction when the Interior Secretary appeared before the court, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed asked him as to what measures are being taken up by authorities concerned for the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners from foreign countries.“Tell us as to whether only dead bodies of Pakistani prisoners would be brought or measures are being taken for their safe repatriation,” Justice Azmat asked Secretary Interior. The court observed that there were 423 Pakistanis in UK jails and also there are Pakistani prisoners in Thailand. Justice Faisal Arab, another member of the bench observed that Shahkirullah, a Pakistani, remained in Indian jail for about 19 years and his dead body reached Pakistan the other day. The body of the Pakistani prisoner, Shakirullah who was stoned to death by other inmates in Rajasthan’s Jaipur Central Jail mid last month, has been handed over to Pakistan at the Wagah Border last Saturday.The murder of the Pakistani inmate had come after India has leveled baseless allegations against Pakistan of being involved in the Pulwama attack.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/e0BJs216-n4
