<div> Itâ??s BAFTA (https://deadline.com/tag/bafta/) night here in London, where the British Academy of Film and Television Arts is handing out its BAFTA Film Awards. Fox Searchlightâ??s The Favourite (https://deadline.com/tag/the-favourite/) is the lead nominee with 12 mentions including Best Film, and has already won tonight for Outstanding British Film, Rachel Weisz as Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Production Design and Makeup & Hair.
Alfonso Cuarأ³nâ??s Roma (https://deadline.com/tag/roma/) (Netflix), A Star Is Born (Warner Bros), Bohemian Rhapsody (Fox) and First Man (Universal) each have seven nominations. Cuarأ³nâ??s film has won Best Film Not in the English Language and for Cinematography;آ*A Star Is Born has won already for Music and Bohemian Rhapsody took the Sound category.
Folks have been buzzing all weekend that Roma could ultimately be the one to beat. The BAFTAs donâ??t always align with the Oscarsâ??last year Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri triumphed over the eventual Oscar winner The Shape of Waterâ??yet are a strong indicator, particularly with so many voting members overlapping with AMPAS. Still, in a year this topsy-turvy, surprises canâ??t be ruled out.
