At last, the great straw reckoning is upon us.
Last week, Starbucks announced (https://mashable.com/2018/07/09/starbucks-plastic-straws-cold-lids/) it would phase out plastic straws by 2020, replacing them with a plastic lid that resembles the top of a sippy cup. Numerous cities across the U.S., including Seattle, Oakland, Malibu, and Miami Beach, have already banned (https://www.fastcompany.com/40580132/here-are-the-u-s-cities-that-have-banned-plastic-straws-so-far) single-use plastic straws. In New York City, a councilman has introduced legislation (http://gothamist.com/2018/05/23/plastic_straw_ban_nyc.php) to ban straws there, too. And celebrities like Adrian Grenier, who co-founded the Lonely Whale Foundation (https://www.lonelywhale.org/), have been on the #StopSucking grind (http://time.com/4938078/adrien-grenier-plastic-straws-pollution/) for years.
