Chinese state media accused on Wednesday Google (http://mashable.com/category/google/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss), Facebook (http://mashable.com/category/facebook/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss), Apple (http://mashable.com/category/apple/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss) and other tech giants of being a "threat" to Chinese netizens and "pawns" to the U.S. that should be "punished."
The state-owned English-language newspaper China Daily launched the accusation in an article (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/business/tech/2014-06/04/content_17560480.htm) titled "Foreign tech firms pose threat on Internet," which stated that the tech companies are asked by the U.S. government to "spy on customers."
The accusations come on the heels of China's decision to block several Google services leading up to Wednesday's 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests (http://mashable.com/2014/06/04/tiananmen-square-massacre-photos/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss).
