Sudocrem for fly protection

I've been using sudocrem morning and night on my boy's sheath, and it's working to a degree to deter the flies. However, in this heat it means that his hind legs and tail are becoming filthy and greasy as the cream melts and spreads around. Is this just something to put up with or should I try something different? All suggestions welcome. TIA
