Electric fencing for novices!

Please can someone advise me what I need to buy to power my own electric fencing successfully? The reason I'm clueless is because I've just hooked it onto the mains power electric fence that runs round the outside of the field until now. I want to make some tracks for the ponies so I thought I'd better get the whole kit and caboodle but there seem to be a few different brands of energiser and battery available and I'm not sure which to choose. Has anyone got any good advice please?
