I've finally swapped my chunky cob over to pure hay after mixing for a little bit. The mixing was futile as he would only eat the haylage and leave the hay no matter how much I mixed or how little haylage I put in so now he is just on pure hay. I gave it in a bigger holed net to make it easy and he turned his nose up so gave it a little spritz with the hose and he was still not keen so just left him to it. Been told he's not really touched it overnight and went like a bat out of hell to the field.Half of the horses on the yard on the same hay and all eat it so I don't think the hay is an issue. It is quite coarse but not dusty or mouldy. I wouldn't be worried if he was only in for a couple of hours but is in 12 hours overnight and really don't like the idea of him standing around not eating. He needs to lose weight and swapping to hay would be helpful but aware of the other issues not eating causes.Should I just leave him to it until he gets over himself? I am loathe to offer him anything else to eat alongside it as it will provide even less incentive to eat the hay!
