Medium Trot

Hi, My pony has the most AMAZING medium trot and he will do it when he is behind out hacking (loves to be in front) or out hunting/when he's very excited. Today I managed to get him to perform it and he did it beautifully (we were out hacking) I've never ridden a horse doing it before him and since he's so young he doesn't know the commands to do it he just does it when he feels like it ! I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get him to do it when I ask without confusing him (he normally goes into canter) Thank you ! :)
