I?ve had my horse for just over a year, and it feels like in the last month or so I?ve finally worked out how to ride him and it?s all coming together. Had our first ODE planned for next month and haven?t been happier. Went XC schooling today and he refused to jump anything - this isn?t him at all (he?s never refused anything, ever with me). So called it a day as decided he?s too genuine for it to be anything but pain. Vet came out this afternoon to do full lameness work up. Reacted to every flexion test, lame in all four legs. The majority is unlikely to be covered by insurance due to exclusions from original vetting so vet has said bute and ten days of rest/walk work to see if it?s just concussion from hard ground. Then we?ll x ray and nerve block if still lame. Vet is thinking definite hock issues (which I had suspected) and potentially coffin joint/ligament issues in both fronts. Trying to stay positive until the ten days are up and we re-examine, but struggling. I?ll only ever do what?s right by him, but lack of insurance cover is worrying me. Not sure what the point of this post is, just feeling quite sorry for the both of us! Sushi and cheese strings if you got this far (OH has stocked up on my comfort eating foods...)
