Next showing question - waistcoats

When are they acceptable to wear? Lots wearing in in-hand classes at the weekend. I boiled in my full tweed jacket. Wasn?t sure if they were only appropriate for traditional cobs and Welsh or if can be worn with other types.Thanks.
