NAWABSHAH: The mother who lost her minor child due to measles vaccination in Nawabshah on Tuesday threatened to commit self-immolation, if justice was not meted out to her.
She said that she carried her child Husnain a number of times to the Peoples Medical Hospital, but doctors paid no attention; instead they said that the child was all right. She further said that the child expired unattended.
Earlier, three minor children had died due to measles vaccination, while the condition of other eight children also deteriorated. Among these eight children, three were in critical condition and they were shifted to Karachi, where one was put on ventilator. On the other hand, the teams of the Health Department and World Health Organisation were probing the issue and its members refused to talk to the media.
The mother of Husnain told the media that the news of payment of Rs1.5 million was floated by some quarters, which was totally baseless. She offered Rs2 million to bring back her son alive. The grandfather of another child, Zubair said that his grandson was no more alive but the government was hiding the fact to avoid any uproar.
The uncle of Lady Health Worker Tahseen, Muhammad Umar, told the media that the officials of the health department were trying to save their faces and were putting the burden of responsibility on the lady health worker. He said that the LHW first of all administered the vaccine to her nephew, which she could have never done, if she had knowledge about the vaccine.He said that the officials and the centre in-charge are outright responsible for the incident as they handed over the vaccine to the lady health worker without icebox. The mother of expired child Husnain, lamenting the death of the children, questioned where Asif Ali Zardari was. She said that the deputy commissioner arrived after five hours of such a grave incident, while the hospital administration, instead of calling doctors, called police for the families of the dead children.
